On the second article of this 7 part series, we will focus on the sacral chakra and its relation with the Myers-Briggs personality test.
If you don’t know what is a chakra or MBTI, please read the first article of this series.
In this article, we’ll see:
As explained in the previous article, chakras are coming from Indian traditions and has no scientific basis. Chakras, for most people land in the territory of esoteric beliefs. That’s why those practices can sometimes be related to cult and shady gurus.
Nowadays, some studies try to find correlation between the human body part and some chakras that give some truth to the matter. Yet, nothing proven about chakra, subtle body and energy. So it’s either you believe it or not.
My take on this: I believe it, but I don’t try to convince anyone, I just slip some words in the conversation and I see if the person is into it or at least interested.
On the other side, the MBTI model is very popular (in the US and in the workplace), however, it’s not the best tool. The reason is pretty simple and it’s actually the same for every tool (scientific or esoteric) that categorizes human behaviors under a number of set principles.
In the case of the MBTI, there are 16 personality types that are supposed to cover every 7 billions people on Earth? On one side, it sure seems very little. On the other side, it makes sense because, if you create a model, you need to make it simple enough to be received by most.
So let’s see an example of celebrities in the same field:
All of those men are Entertainers (the ENFP). So for each of them we can draw similarities:
Even though we can find some link between them, we can’t actually make them fall under the same characteristics. We can find common points with anyone at anytime. Truth is, those four man working in the same field are 4 very different personalities and no amount of Myers-Briggs reading will help understand the depth of a person.
The sacral chakra, also called the divine feminine, is, unlike the root chakra, of a feminine energy. Its sanskrit name is: Svadhisthana and is orange, placed right under the belly button.
It is related to sensuality, sexuality, relation to others, creativity and emotions.
According to Vickie Howie, here are the characteristics of someone led by this chakra:
- Goes with the flow/easy-going
- Intimacy oriented (makes you feel like you’re the only other)
- Has access to the full range of emotions
- Is creative (not just with art but in all areas of life)
- Very adaptable/loves change
- Tends to have multiple relationships (or moves through many)
- Can get lost in the other/might be co-dependent
- Likes to play and “party”
- Has empathic skills
- Has feminine voice, movement, etc
- Has trouble staying on schedule (so don’t try to count on the sacral type)
Like the root chakra, the sacral chakra is a bottom chakra. Unlike the top chakra, people in the bottom chakra are much practical than analytical. Interested in real things more than the world of ideas. Sacral chakra people are in touch with their emotions, that’s why it’s easy for them to be social people that connect with others. And have a lot of creativity. So let’s see the types that are close Myers-Briggs traits that are close to that.
Observant people are:
highly practical, pragmatic and down-to-earth. They tend to have strong habits and focus on what is happening or has already happened.
People with the feeling are:
sensitive and emotionally expressive. They are more empathic and less competitive than Thinking types, and focus on social harmony and cooperation.
The type of people where the S and F type is prominent is for the Explorers sub-type. In this sub-types, the 2 personalities that seems very close to it are the following.
There are the true artist type. Not in the conventional way, even though they could, but generally, you can see it in their choice of aesthetics, design and the way they push social conventions. Some of them love extreme sports. Their biggest challenge is to plan the future. They are in touch with their emotions and others. That’s maybe why they have an irresistible charm.
In romantic relationships, Adventurers are mysterious, yet very sensitive and enthusiastic. However, they are interested in new possibilities, therefore, early commitments is a sure way to make them go.
At work, their creative freedom is the most important thing to have.
Entertainers are the life of the party. They love to dance and take people with them on the dance floor. They love to pay attention to people and always have something to say. They have a strong sense of aesthetic, they always look good and don’t hesitate into changing their style or surroundings. There are on the lookout for immediate pleasures and their lack of future planning often leads them with financial issue.
At work, entertainers excel in jobs where there is a sense of excitement and originality. Like event planners, tour guides or trip planners.
The way Myers-Briggs has categorized their personality types matches some of the characteristics of personalities we can see with the chakras. At the end of the test (if you haven’t done it yet, go do it), the result are mind-blowing. They clearly say that it is science and not horoscope. Yet, chakras that have been there for centuries still matches those fine observations made a century ago.
Enough talking for me:
